Amber Hummel Receives the 2025 Worpswede Scholarship
The Worpswede Scholarship, awarded for the third time in 2025 by the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle in cooperation with the Künstler:innenHäuser Worpswede e.V., goes this year to artist and BURG graduate Amber Hummel. Starting in early October, the scholarship includes a three-month residency in one of the studio apartments in Worpswede. In addition to free accommodation, the scholarship provides a monthly financial grant of €1,600. An additional €1,000 is available to cover material costs related to the artistic work during the residency.
Amber Hummel, who completed her art studies at BURG in 2025, impressed the jury with the artistic diversity of her work. Since the beginning of her studies, the artist has explored various media alongside the expressive possibilities of fine arts in painting. Her work includes text, video art, photography, and spoken word performance, among others.
"Through her poetic interpretation of everyday issues and interpersonal relationships, Amber Hummel vividly and engagingly conveys her artistic concerns. Her work fosters a sense of community and encourages audiences to reflect and empathize with the social, interpersonal, and emotional themes she addresses," stated the jury. Her artistic practice connects "media playgrounds into interdisciplinary projects." She is also the author and editor of the magazine HEFTIG, organizes readings beyond her student environment, and participates in music projects.
